What is a registered agent and why would I need one?

This article explains what a registered agent does and how ZenBusiness can help you.

Updated over a week ago

When you form a business, state agencies will require you to appoint a registered agent. A registered agent will receive service of process notices and government correspondence on your behalf.

The registered agent must always be in a set location during normal business hours. It must also have a physical address within the state a business is formed in. Any changes to the location must be reported to the state using the proper forms.

Using a registered agent service, rather than being your own, allows you to come and go as you please. If you act as your own registered agent, you will be required to stay at one location during normal business hours every business day of the week.

ZenBusiness offers a registered agent service. When we act as your registered agent, any registered agent documentation (Service of processes and government notices) that we receive is uploaded to your ZenBusiness account. You can access it easily by logging in and going to the documents section of your dashboard.

Please note that our Registered Agent address is meant to receive legal mail only and cannot be used as a business address.
