Where to Find My EIN
Your EIN is stored in the Documents section of your ZenBusiness dashboard at app.zenbusiness.com. Log in, go to Documents in the left navigation, and look for your EIN Assignment Letter — typically labeled "EIN" or "Federal Tax ID." If it's not there yet, your EIN may still be processing.
Step-by-Step: Finding Your EIN in Your Dashboard
- Log in at app.zenbusiness.com
- Click Documents in the left navigation menu
- Look for your EIN Assignment Letter — it may be labeled "EIN," "Federal Tax ID," or "IRS EIN Confirmation"
- Download or view the document to see your 9-digit EIN number
Your EIN is formatted as XX-XXXXXXX (two digits, hyphen, seven digits).
Why Your EIN Might Not Be There Yet
If you don't see your EIN in your documents, there are a few common reasons:
Your formation isn't complete yet. ZenBusiness cannot file for your EIN until the state approves your business formation. Check your formation status under your Dashboard. If formation is still pending, wait for it to complete before expecting your EIN.
EIN filing is in progress. After formation is approved, ZenBusiness typically files for your EIN within 1–2 business days. The IRS then issues the EIN within a few more business days. Total time from formation approval to EIN in your dashboard: approximately 3–7 business days.
You didn't order EIN service. EIN service is not automatically included with all formation plans — it's included in Pro and Premium plans, and available as a separate add-on for Starter. Check your order under Account Settings → Subscriptions to confirm EIN service was purchased. If not, you can add it from your dashboard.
There was an EIN Error 101. This means the IRS found a name conflict. ZenBusiness will notify you by email and help you resolve it. See EIN Error 101 — What It Means and How to Fix It.
If You Already Have Your EIN Elsewhere
If you applied for your EIN directly through the IRS before or separately from ZenBusiness, your EIN won't automatically appear in your ZenBusiness dashboard — it was issued directly to you by the IRS. Check your email for the IRS confirmation email, or look for Form CP 575 (IRS EIN Assignment Letter) which the IRS mails to your business address.
Frequently Asked Questions
It's been 2 weeks since my formation was approved. Why don't I have my EIN?
Contact ZenBusiness support at (844) 493-6249. There may be an EIN Error 101 (name conflict) that requires a manual SS-4 filing, or there may be a processing delay we can investigate. Either way, we'll identify the issue and update you.
I lost my EIN document. Can I get a copy?
Yes — it's permanently stored in your ZenBusiness dashboard under Documents. If it's not there, call us and we can re-upload it. As a backup, you can also contact the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line at 1-800-829-4933 (7 AM–7 PM ET, Monday–Friday) to have them look up or confirm your EIN.
Can I find my EIN on my tax forms?
Yes — if you've ever filed a business tax return (Schedule C, Form 1065, Form 1120-S), your EIN appears in the business information section. It also appears on your IRS confirmation letter (Form CP 575 or 147C) if you have that on file.
