How to File Taxes with Money Pro
Money Pro includes free federal + state tax filing for single-member LLCs through Column Tax (also called April Tax Solutions in the platform). To file, go to the Taxes tab in Money Pro and click File Taxes — available starting January 1 each year. Your Money Pro income, expenses, and mileage auto-import into your return. The IRS opens for filing around January 29.
What's Included
Money Pro includes one federal + one state tax return per subscription year through the Column Tax / April Tax integration:
- Supported: Single-member LLCs filing Schedule C on Form 1040
- Not supported: Multi-member LLCs, S-Corps, C-Corps (use April Tax Filing through ZenBusiness instead)
- Your Money Pro data (income, expenses, mileage) auto-imports — no manual data entry
- Prepared and reviewed by licensed tax professionals at Column Tax
- E-filed directly from the platform
Tax filing is not required through Money Pro. You can export your tax reports and use your own accountant or tax software — the Column Tax integration is an included option, not a requirement.
Step-by-Step: File Through Column Tax

Before You File: Pre-Tax Checklist
Make sure your Money Pro records are complete before starting your return:
- [ ] All transactions categorized — no uncategorized items in the Expenses tab
- [ ] Personal transactions marked as Personal (not as business expenses)
- [ ] All paid invoices have payments recorded
- [ ] Business mileage logged for the full year
- [ ] Large expenses have receipts attached
- [ ] Tax profile complete (filing status, W-2 income if any, deduction preference)
Filing With Your Own Accountant Instead
Export these reports from Reports in Money Pro for your accountant:
| Report | What It Covers | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule C Report | All business expenses by IRS category | PDF + CSV |
| Tax Details Report | Full income and expense breakdown | PDF + CSV |
| Profit & Loss Statement | Total income, expenses, net profit | PDF + CSV |
| Mileage Detail List | Every trip with date, purpose, miles, deduction | CSV |
Your accountant needs the Schedule C report and P&L at minimum. The Mileage Detail List is required separately if you're claiming the mileage deduction.
Quarterly Estimated Taxes
You still need to pay quarterly estimated taxes throughout the year — filing is separate from paying. Money Pro estimates your quarterly payments in the Taxes → Quarterly tab. You pay directly to the IRS at eftps.gov.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I start filing my taxes?
The File Taxes button appears in your Money Pro Taxes tab starting January 1. The IRS officially opens for e-filing around January 29. You can complete your return before that date and it will be submitted when the IRS opens.
Does Money Pro file my taxes automatically?
No. You initiate the filing process by clicking File Taxes. Money Pro organizes your records and populates the Column Tax form, but you review and submit the return yourself.
What if I have both W-2 income and self-employment income?
Column Tax / April Tax supports single-member LLCs with both W-2 and Schedule C income on the same return. Enter your W-2 information in your Tax Profile.
What reports do I give my accountant if I'm not using Column Tax?
Export the Schedule C Report, P&L Statement, and Mileage Detail List for the full calendar year. Also give them your full transaction export (CSV) if they prefer to work with raw data.
What if I need to file taxes in multiple states?
Money Pro includes one state return through Column Tax. If you owe taxes in additional states — because you moved during the year, work in a state different from where you live, or your business has nexus in multiple states — file those extra state returns separately outside the Money Pro integration. Common scenarios: part-year returns after a move, non-resident returns when you live in one state and work in another, and nexus filings when business activity in another state passes that state's threshold.
How do I file for a tax extension?
File IRS Form 4868 by April 15 to get an automatic 6-month extension, moving your filing deadline to October 15. You can e-file Form 4868 for free through the IRS Free File program at irs.gov. Important: an extension only extends the filing deadline, not the payment deadline. Any tax you owe is still due April 15 — pay your best estimate by that date to avoid penalties and interest on the unpaid balance.
How do I file an amended return if I made a mistake?
Money Pro and Column Tax do not support amended returns. File IRS Form 1040-X directly with the IRS at irs.gov to correct substantive errors — unreported income, an incorrect deduction, or the wrong filing status. The IRS automatically corrects math errors, so amended returns are only needed for changes that affect your tax liability. You can e-file Form 1040-X or mail it to the IRS. State amended returns follow each state's own process.
