Connect Your ZenBusiness Domain to Shopify, GoDaddy, Namecheap, and More

To connect your ZenBusiness domain to Shopify, update two DNS records in your ZenBusiness dashboard: set the A record to 23.227.38.65 and the CNAME for www to shops.myshopify.com. (include the period). Changes take 24–48 hours to propagate. Do not delete your MX records — that breaks your email.

Connect Your ZenBusiness Domain to Shopify

Required DNS records

Record Type Hostname Value
A record @ (root domain) 23.227.38.65
CNAME record www shops.myshopify.com.

The period at the end of shops.myshopify.com. is required — include it exactly as shown.

Step-by-step

  1. Log in at zenbusiness.com
  2. Go to Web Tools → Domains → click your domain
  3. Open DNS Settings or Manage DNS
  4. Find the A record for your root domain (the "@" or blank hostname row) and change its value to 23.227.38.65. Delete any other A records pointing to old destinations (such as ZenBusiness Website Builder).
  5. Find the CNAME record for "www" and change the value to shops.myshopify.com. (with the period)
  6. Save your DNS changes
  7. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Domains and add your domain so Shopify can verify it

DNS propagation takes 24–48 hours. During that time, your domain may show the old destination or nothing at all — this is normal.

Protect your email when connecting to Shopify

Critical: Only update the A record and CNAME for www. Leave your MX and TXT records completely untouched.

Record What it does Safe to change?
A record Points domain to a server/IP ✅ Update to Shopify's IP
CNAME (www) Points www to Shopify ✅ Update to shops.myshopify.com.
MX records Controls email delivery ❌ Do NOT change
TXT records SPF, DKIM, domain verification ❌ Do NOT change

Common mistake: Some customers delete all existing DNS records before adding Shopify's values. This destroys your email configuration. Always edit individual records — never clear all DNS settings at once.

  6. Edit or add the CNAME record for "www": point it to the ZenBusiness CNAME value from step 2

ZenBusiness Website Builder vs. Shopify — Which Should You Use?

Your choice depends on whether selling online is your primary business model.

ZenBusiness Website Builder Shopify

Product variants per item 8 maximum 100 maximum
Payment processors PayPal, Stripe, Square, Mollie 100+ options

Choose Website Builder if: You need a professional website for a service business and want to sell a small number of products (under 50 with simple variations). Everything lives in your ZenBusiness dashboard alongside compliance, formation, and email.

Choose Shopify if: Selling online is your primary business. You need 10+ product variants, multi-channel selling, POS integration, or advanced eCommerce features.

You can have both — many businesses use ZenBusiness for their LLC + domain while running their store on Shopify.

Shopify and Sales Tax: What You Still Need to Do

Shopify automatically calculates and collects sales tax from customers at checkout — but collecting tax and remitting tax are two different things.

What Shopify does:
- Calculates state and local tax rates at checkout based on the customer's location
- Adds tax to the customer's order total
- Shows you a report of taxes collected by state

What you still must do:
1. Determine which states you have "sales tax nexus" in — typically where you have a physical presence (home office, warehouse, employees) or exceed economic nexus thresholds (most states: $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions)
2. Register for a sales tax permit in those states before collecting
3. File sales tax returns and remit the collected tax to each state on the required schedule (monthly, quarterly, or annually depending on the state)

Shopify stores your tax collections — but failing to register and remit is a compliance issue even if Shopify is collecting the right amounts. Services like TaxJar or Avalara can automate multi-state registration and filing.

Use ZenBusiness Banking for Shopify Payouts

ZenBusiness Banking works as a standard payout destination for Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, and other payment processors.

How to connect:
1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Payments
2. Select your payment provider
3. Enter your ZenBusiness Banking account and routing numbers when prompted
4. The processor deposits revenue into your account on their standard schedule (Shopify Payments/Stripe: typically 2–3 business days)

This is not a native Shopify–ZenBusiness integration. You connect ZenBusiness Banking as a standard bank account, the same way you would any business checking account.

Registered Agent Address on Shopify

Your registered agent address is for legal document receipt — it may be a commercial address that doesn't accept customer packages or return shipments.

Use case OK to use RA address?
Shopify backend business address (tax/legal fields) ✅ Yes
Storefront contact address visible to customers ❌ Not recommended
Return address for customer shipments ❌ Not recommended
Receiving physical mail or packages ❌ Not recommended

Use a separate business address, virtual mailbox, or P.O. Box for customer-facing addresses on your Shopify store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my ZenBusiness domain with Shopify?

Yes. Update your ZenBusiness DNS settings: A record to 23.227.38.65, CNAME for www to shops.myshopify.com. (with period). Then add the domain in your Shopify admin under Settings → Domains. Leave your MX and TXT records untouched to preserve your business email.

Will connecting my domain to Shopify break my ZenBusiness email?

Only if you delete or change your MX or TXT records. Your email runs on MX records — as long as you only update the A record and CNAME, email continues working without interruption. The most common mistake is clearing all DNS records before adding Shopify's values. Always edit records individually.

How long does DNS take to update?

24–48 hours for changes to fully propagate. During propagation, some visitors may see the old site and others may see the new one, depending on which DNS server their browser queries. This is normal.

Can I still use ZenBusiness Website Builder after connecting to Shopify?

No — your domain can only point to one destination at a time. If you connect your domain to Shopify, it points to Shopify, not Website Builder. You can switch it back at any time by updating the DNS records again.

My domain is at GoDaddy, not ZenBusiness. Can I still point it to ZenBusiness Website Builder?

Yes. Get the DNS values from your ZenBusiness Website Builder settings (Connect Domain), log in to GoDaddy, and update your DNS records there. See the GoDaddy instructions above.

Does Shopify automatically handle all my sales taxes?

Shopify collects at checkout, but you are responsible for registering in states where you have sales tax nexus and remitting collected taxes on the required schedule. Shopify's tax collection does not substitute for your registration and remittance obligations.
