ZenBusiness Banking and Money Pro — How They Work Together

ZenBusiness Banking and Money Pro are two separate ZenBusiness products that work best together. ZenBusiness Banking is your FDIC-insured business checking account (provided by Thread Bank). Money Pro is your bookkeeping, invoicing, and expense tracking tool. When connected, transactions from your ZenBusiness Banking account flow automatically into Money Pro — eliminating manual data entry and giving you a real-time view of your business finances in one place.

What Each Product Does

ZenBusiness Banking

ZenBusiness Banking is a business checking account available to eligible ZenBusiness customers who formed their LLC with ZenBusiness. It's accessed entirely through your ZenBusiness dashboard — there's no separate bank login.

What it handles:
- Receiving payments (ACH, wire, mobile check deposit)
- Sending money (ACH, wire)
- Debit card for purchases
- Checking balance and transaction history

What it doesn't do: Categorize expenses, generate financial reports, send invoices, or calculate estimated taxes. That's Money Pro's job.

Money Pro

Money Pro is ZenBusiness's financial management tool — the bookkeeping and tracking layer on top of your bank account.

What it handles:
- Income and expense tracking
- Transaction categorization (auto-categorizes based on merchant type)
- Mileage tracking
- Invoicing and payments
- Profit/loss snapshots
- Quarterly tax estimates

What it doesn't do: Hold money, process ACH transactions, or issue a debit card. That's what your bank account is for.

How the Integration Works

When you link your ZenBusiness Banking account to Money Pro, transactions flow from your bank to Money Pro automatically — typically same-day or next-day. You don't need to manually import CSV files or enter transactions by hand.

The sync process:
1. A transaction occurs in your ZenBusiness Banking account (a client payment arrives, you pay a vendor with your debit card, etc.)
2. The transaction appears in Money Pro's transaction feed, usually within 24 hours
3. Money Pro automatically categorizes the transaction based on merchant category codes and past behavior
4. You review and confirm categories, or recategorize if the auto-assignment is wrong
5. The transaction flows into your income/expense reports, tax estimates, and financial overview

This keeps your books current without manual work.

How to Connect ZenBusiness Banking to Money Pro

Step 1: Confirm You Have Both Products

  • ZenBusiness Banking: Must be active and approved. Apply through your dashboard if you haven't already. See ZenBusiness Banking Overview & Setup.
  • Money Pro: Must be active on your ZenBusiness account. Check your dashboard for Money Pro access.

Step 2: Link Your Bank Account in Money Pro

  1. Log in at zenbusiness.com
  2. Navigate to Money Pro in the main navigation
  3. Go to SettingsBank Accounts (or look for "Link Account" from the main dashboard)
  4. Choose to connect your ZenBusiness Banking account
  5. Follow the prompts — because ZenBusiness Banking is a ZenBusiness product, the connection uses a direct integration rather than third-party credentials in most cases
  6. Authorize the connection and select the account(s) to sync

Step 3: Review Imported Transactions

After linking:
- Money Pro pulls in your recent transaction history (typically 30–90 days of history)
- Transactions appear in your Money Pro feed for review
- Auto-categorizations are applied — review and adjust as needed
- Set up rules for recurring transactions to auto-categorize consistently (e.g., always categorize transactions from "Costco" as Office Supplies)

Step 4: Set Up Your Chart of Accounts

For accurate bookkeeping, assign the right categories to your transactions:
- Income categories: Client payments, product sales, consulting fees
- Expense categories: Software, travel, meals, advertising, professional services
- Owner contributions: Money you put in from personal accounts
- Owner draws: Money you take out for personal use

The more consistently you categorize, the more useful Money Pro's reporting becomes.

Benefits of Using Both Products Together

Single dashboard: Your banking activity and financial health metrics are visible in the same place you manage formation, compliance, and other ZenBusiness services.

Automatic transaction import: Transactions from your ZenBusiness Banking account appear in Money Pro without manual CSV exports or data entry.

Accurate tax estimates: Money Pro uses your actual income and expenses from your linked bank to calculate quarterly estimated tax payments. The more complete your transaction data, the more accurate the estimate.

Expense categorization: Rather than trying to remember what a $47 transaction from three months ago was, Money Pro categorizes as transactions come in.

Invoice reconciliation: When a client pays an invoice through Money Pro's payment feature, the payment can be matched to the corresponding bank deposit.

Using Money Pro With a Different Bank

You don't have to have ZenBusiness Banking to use Money Pro. Money Pro can connect to most external bank accounts and credit cards via Plaid, a secure bank connection service. If your business bank account is at Chase, Bank of America, or another institution, you can still link it to Money Pro.

The difference:
- ZenBusiness Banking + Money Pro: Direct integration, typically faster sync
- External bank + Money Pro via Plaid: Standard third-party connection, may require periodic re-authentication

If you're deciding between ZenBusiness Banking and a traditional bank and want Money Pro to work seamlessly, ZenBusiness Banking is the smoother integration path. If you already have a bank account elsewhere and want to keep it, Plaid connection works well for most major institutions.

Common Issues and Fixes

Transactions not appearing in Money Pro
- Check that the bank link is still active (links can disconnect if bank credentials change or after a period of inactivity)
- Re-authenticate via Money Pro Settings → Bank Accounts
- Allow up to 24 hours for new transactions to sync

Wrong categories applied
- Recategorize individual transactions manually
- Set category rules for merchants you transact with regularly

Duplicate transactions appearing
- This can happen if you linked the same account twice, or if a transaction appears as both pending and settled
- Check Settings → Bank Accounts for duplicate connections and remove one

Can't find the ZenBusiness Banking connection option
- Confirm your ZenBusiness Banking account is fully approved and active
- Contact our support team if the option doesn't appear in Money Pro's bank linking flow

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need ZenBusiness Banking to use Money Pro?

No. Money Pro connects to most banks via Plaid. ZenBusiness Banking is not required. However, using both together provides the smoothest integration experience and keeps everything in one dashboard. If you're starting fresh and qualify for ZenBusiness Banking, using it alongside Money Pro is the recommended setup.

Does connecting my bank give Money Pro access to transfer or move money?

No. The connection between Money Pro and your bank is read-only for transaction import purposes. Money Pro imports your transaction history to categorize and track, but cannot initiate transfers, withdraw funds, or take any action on your bank account. Your ZenBusiness Banking debit card and transfers are managed through the Banking section of your dashboard, not through Money Pro.

Will Money Pro show transactions from before I linked the account?

Yes — typically Money Pro imports 30–90 days of transaction history when you first link an account. The exact historical window depends on what your bank makes available via the connection. Transactions older than the import window won't appear automatically, but you can manually add older transactions if needed for bookkeeping completeness.

What happens to my Money Pro data if I close my ZenBusiness Banking account?

Your Money Pro data (historical transactions, categorizations, invoices, mileage logs) is tied to your Money Pro subscription, not to your ZenBusiness Banking account. If you close ZenBusiness Banking, the bank link disconnects and new transactions stop flowing in — but your existing Money Pro data remains. You can link a different bank account to continue receiving transaction imports.

Is my banking data secure within Money Pro?

Yes. Money Pro uses the same security standards as ZenBusiness Banking — the data transfer is encrypted and the connection is either through ZenBusiness's direct integration (for ZenBusiness Banking) or Plaid's secure bank connection service (for external banks). Money Pro doesn't store your bank login credentials; it uses tokenized access that can be revoked at any time.
